Denise Barbut, MBBS, MD, MRCP – Founder and Executive Chairman

Denise Barbut received her medical training in the United Kingdom, at the Hammersmith Hospital, the Brompton Hospital and the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases, Queen Square in London. Dr. Barbut is board certified in Internal Medicine and Neurology in the UK, and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Great Britain. She is a Professor of Neurology, and was formerly Cerebrovascular Division Chief and Director of the Stroke Research Program at Cornell University Medical College and Attending Physician at New York Hospital. She has published extensively in the fields of stroke and neuroprotection. Dr. Barbut is sole author or lead author of more than 200 issued or pending patents, mostly relating to methods for neuroprotection. She also has founded five biotech companies, including BeneChill.

Michael Berman is a medical device investor/entrepreneur who serves on the boards of 11 emerging medical device companies:

Mr. Berman is one of the co-founders of BeneChill, Inc. He was also a co-founder of Velocimed which was sold to St. Jude Medical in April, 2005 for $82.5 million plus $180 million in contingent payments. From 1995-2000 Mr. Berman was the President of the Cardiology business of Boston Scientific. Mr. Berman received his BS and MBA degrees from Cornell University in 1979 and 1986, respectively.

Noah Kroloff

Noah Kroloff is a Partner at NGN Capital, a healthcare venture capital firm with offices in New York and Heidelberg.

Mr. Kroloff, who has 19 years experience in healthcare, most recently served as an executive officer at i-STAT Corporation, a publicly-traded medical device company where he was Vice President for International Sales & Marketing and Corporate Development. He was actively involved in the sale of i-STAT to Abbott Laboratories for approximately $450 million. He also led the creation of a global alliance with Abbott, a $61 million alliance with Hewlett-Packard Medical Products Group and i-STAT's international distribution network. Prior to i-STAT, Mr. Kroloff was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Co. where he advised leading pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies on R&D management, portfolio strategy, and alliance formation. Prior to his work in healthcare, he was a senior analyst at Fannie Mae and an associate at Industrial Economics, Inc.

Mr. Kroloff received his BA in general science from Brandeis University and his MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management where he was a founder of and currently serves as a judge in the MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition. He is a member of the board of BeneChill, Inc. and Coagulation Sciences LLC.

Annette Campbell-White

Annette Campbell-White is the founder and Senior Managing Member of MedVenture Associates. She is an acknowledged leader in health care and medical technology since 1981 when she was named General Partner at Hambrecht & Quist.

A native of New Zealand, Ms. Campbell-White's career began in strategic planning and ownership of a successful biomedical consulting firm. More than 24 of her selected investments have resulted in successful IPOs or acquisitions at a value greater than $100 million.

Ms. Campell-White received a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and an M.S. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Capetown in South Africa.

Johan Christenson

Dr. Johan Christenson is a partner of HealthCap Venture Capital. Prior to joining Odlander Fredrikson in 2001, Dr. Christenson was with SEB Företagsinvest (the venture capital arm of SEB), supervising the health care portfolio. He has senior management experience from Astra Pain Control as Project Director and AstraZeneca as Global Product Director, and is a member of the global therapy area management team of Pain & Inflammation.

Dr. Christenson received his medical training at the Karolinska Institute, and earned a Ph.D. in basic neuroscience in 1991. He has served as a lecturer in neuroscience and is the author of 17 scientific articles. He held a position as assistant dean at the Karolinska Institute Graduate School for two years. Dr. Christenson has four years of clinical specialist training in pediatrics and pediatric neurology.
